Tiramisu

This classic Tiramisu is a luscious Italian dessert that features layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a creamy mascarpone mixture. It's dusted with cocoa powder and can be garnished with dark chocolate shavings for an extra touch of decadence.

Recipe

Brew the Coffee:

  • Prepare strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature. If using coffee liqueur, mix it into the brewed coffee.

Prepare the Mascarpone Mixture:

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until creamy and pale in color.
  • Add the mascarpone cheese and mix until smooth and well combined.

Whip the Cream:

  • In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

Combine the Mixtures:

  • Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until smooth and well incorporated.

Assemble the Tiramisu:

  • Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the brewed coffee mixture (ensure they're lightly soaked but not overly soggy) and arrange them in the bottom of a serving dish to form the first layer.
  • Spread half of the mascarpone mixture evenly over the ladyfingers to create the second layer.

Repeat Layers:

  • Repeat the process by layering dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.

Chill and Set:

  • Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4-6 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the tiramisu to set.

Dust and Garnish:

  • Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with unsweetened cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings, if desired.

Serve:

  • Slice and serve chilled, enjoying the creamy and luscious layers of this classic Italian dessert.
